Syracuse 8 Digital Collection
The Syracuse 8 digital collection comprises historical materials documenting the group of Black athletes who boycotted the Syracuse University football team and demanded the University address racism in the football program in 1970. Correspondence, photographs, fliers, publications, audio recordings, and other documents from various collections and records in the University Archives are included. These primary sources help to tell this story of student activism and the push for social justice at Syracuse University.
Additional historical materials and information about the Syracuse 8 can also be found in the digital exhibition, A Courageous Stand: The Story of the Syracuse 8.
Historical records are evidence of the time in which they were created and may contain language and images that are racist, homophobic, sexist, ableist, or otherwise derogatory and insensitive. This collection is presented for its historic and research value. Viewers may find some content objectionable. Learn more here.
